B.Barret Might be forced to retire after a head concussion.
All Blacks’ star playmaker Beauden Barrett admits that he wondered whether he would ever return to the field after suffering from concussion for over three months.
The 30-year-old sustained the head knock during New Zealand’s 29-20 defeat to Ireland in November and it kept him out of the start of the Super Rugby Pacific season.
Barrett returned to the Blues squad for their Round Three triumph over the Chiefs and will start for the Auckland outfit against the Highlanders on Friday.
It has been a struggle for the two-time World Rugby Player of the Year, who concedes that potentially being forced to hang up his boots was on his mind.
“I’m well aware of how concussion can lead to retirement if it doesn’t work out. Kane, my brother, had to give up his career because of it. I see plenty of good friends and team mates have done the same in the past,” Barrett told the New Zealand Herald.
“I tried to stay positive – I’m usually a very optimistic person. I was trying to find alternative ways to get on top of things, and I did that.
