B.Barret Might be forced to retire after a head concussion.

Image
All Blacks’ star playmaker Beauden Barrett admits that he wondered whether he would ever return to the field after suffering from concussion for over three months. The 30-year-old sustained the head knock during  New Zealand’s 29-20 defeat to Ireland  in November and it kept him out of the start of the  Super Rugby Pacific  season. Barrett returned to the  Blues  squad for their Round Three triumph over the  Chiefs  and will start for the Auckland outfit against the Highlanders on Friday. It has been a struggle for the two-time World Rugby Player of the Year, who concedes that potentially being forced to hang up his boots was on his mind. “I’m well aware of how concussion can lead to retirement if it doesn’t work out. Kane, my brother, had to give up his career because of it. I see plenty of good friends and team mates have done the same in the past,” Barrett told the  New Zealand Herald . “I tried to stay positive – I’m usually a...

Blues and All Blacks Flyhalf ruled out.

Image
Saturday’s Super Rugby Pacific win over the Highlanders in Dunedin proved costly for the Blues as they lost star playmaker Beauden Barrett due to a head knock. There were concerns in  Blues  ranks early in the second half after the  New Zealand  fly-half came off second best in a collision with  Highlanders  outside centre Fetuli Paea, who ran into him at pace. The All Black centurion stayed down and received medical attention but was eventually forced off the field with blood streaming from his nose. Up to that point, Barrett had been in fine form in the win over the Highlanders as he contributed 13 points in their 32-25 triumph courtesy of a well-taken try, a conversion and two penalties. He went for a head injury assessment, which he failed, with his replacement, Stephen Perofeta, finishing the game as the Blues’ fly-half. The 30-year-old’s latest setback will be a concern as he was kept on the sidelines during the initial phase of the season...
